Stepping out along the Rhine together
Stepping out along the Rhine together! Everyone is welcome! Let's start the last week of May...
moreWelcome
Bring some movement into your life and take - either on your own or with up to four fellow team-members, a virtual walk along the idyllic banks of the Rhine from Basel to Bregenz: 225 kilometres – 300,000 paces – in 30 days.
Your goal
You walk 10,000 paces a day, five days a week. If you manage to do this, either on your own or as part of a team, you will reach Bregenz in six weeks: The project starts on 19 April 2010, and you are scheduled to arrive on 30 May.
You receive a free-pedometer that you should always wear so that you can see at any time how many paces you have taken so far. You may need to add supplementary activities like running, cycling or swimming in order to reach your target.
All forms of movement that aren't registered by the pedometer can be converted into paces. You should check every day whether you've reached your target.
"My profile" gives you a calendar overview of all the project days so that you can enter the number of paces you have completed. Our virtual map shows you how far you've walked, where you are, and what sights you are passing. Reach your goal of 10'000 paces on a total of 30 days and you will arrive in Bregenz timeous.
The 10'000-step concept?
In a normal day at the office, the average employee walks between 4,000 and 5,000 paces. From the health viewpoint this is nothing like enough: it should really be doubled, to at least 10,000 steps a day. To make up the difference you could spend 25 minutes cycling, 20 minutes playing football, or half an hour working in the garden.
